Systemic toxicity of paraphenylenediamine.

چکیده
Sir, Paraphenylenediamine (PPD), a derivative of paranitroanaline, is commonly used in several industries like oxidizable hair dye, dyeing furs, photochemical processes and tyre vulcanization. The Þ rst documentation of systemic PPD poisoning in 1924 described the case of a hairdresser who developed toxicity from handling the dye.[1] Many reports have followed since then, mainly from developing countries. We report a series of 10 patients admitted over a period of 1 year at a tertiary care hospital in south India.

Hair Dye Poisoning : a Case Report
Hair dye ingestion is frequently reported from Africa, the Middle-East, and the Indian subcontinent. The main component of hair dye causing toxicity is Paraphenylenediamine (PPD). This compound causes contact dermatitis in susceptible individuals, but when ingested it has been found to cause angioneurotic edema, rhabdomyolysis and renal failure. We report a case of paraphenylenediamine poisoning.

393 Paraphenylenediamine (PPD) is a blue-black aniline dye commonly used in hair dyes. It is also used in textile and fur dyes, wool dye, dark cosmetics, temporary tattoo hennas, photo baths, and photocopy and printing ink. Paraphenylenediamine, which accelerates the absorption of hair dye and henna tattoos by the skin and helps the formation of the black color, is an allergen. Paraphenylenedia...
متن کاملNeutrophilic and eosinophilic dermatitis caused by contact allergic reaction to paraphenylenediamine in hair dye.
BACKGROUND Paraphenylenediamine (PPD) in hair dyes can cause systemic as well as cutaneous allergic reactions such as neutrophilic and eosinophilic dermatitis. The symptoms are often severe. The acute lesion is normally histologically indistinguishable from any eczematous reaction with marked spongiosis. OBSERVATIONS We report a case of allergic contact dermatitis caused by the use of hair dy...
متن کاملInvestigating the Effect of Fullerene on the Basicity of Paraphenylenediamine by using the Quantum Chemistry Methods
In this study, paraphenylenediamine was first bonded to the fullerene and was optimized geometrically by Using the quantum chemistry methods. paraphenylenediamine was examined in the isolated state and in the fullerene-bonded state via carbon atoms. In the theoretical research, the simulation was done by the Gauss View software. Then, the bonding orbital calculation was done by using the NBO me...

Hair dye ingestion is an uncommon form of poisoning in the west, however, in some parts of the world such as East Africa and Indian Sub-continent it is not uncommon. The main component of hair dye causing toxicity is Paraphenylenediamine (PPD). This compound has been found to cause angioneurotic edema, rhabdomyolysis and renal failure. We present a case of hair dye poisoning who presented with ...
